European Law
European Union law is a body of treaties and legislation, such as Regulations and Directives, which have direct effect or indirect effect on the laws of European Union member states. Cyprus has become a member of the EU in May 2004 and in 2008 adopted the Euro. Therefore, many of its legislation have been created or have been amended in compliance with directives or regulations in an attempted to comply with EU law. Moreover, the Constitution was amended in order to implement the Human Rights as they are found in the European Human Rights Convention.
